The Arrival

I am a career commercial artist and illustrator, which included being editorial cartoonist for the Palm Beach Daily News for 32 years. Editorial cartooning is, at its root, a cynical practice. So recently I had the desire to paint a giant cartoon, completely ebullient in nature and totally lacking in cynicism. The Arrival is about that feeling of childlike delight when you first arrive at the beach and want to run, full speed, into the waves. The buoyant nature of the piece is reinforced by the fact that, caught in mid-stride, nobody’s feet are touching the ground.
